Getting back into the blog
First of all, thanks to all you who faithfully come back to this blog; it means you're thinking of us and praying.
News Item #1: The Consular Agency in Funchal is closing.
This has been in the works for some time. Emphasizing the "for some time" translates as "slow, agonizing death". It was only recently that June 7 was officially decided and announced to be the last day of the consular agency, after almost a year of wondering when the ax would fall. That's a week from tomorrow. What is still in the throes of official indecision is how much longer I will have a role in winding up the affairs of State at the office. There are two rooms of furnishings, documents, equipment and trash to be disposed of; two rooms to be returned to landlord. True to bureaucratic procedures, the final decisions always seem to be "somebody else's" responsibility. "for some time" means "for some time longer" than until now.
These 12 years in the consulate were by the hand of God, and we see His hand at the beginning and again at the end. He led us into this (practically pushed me into the position, in fact) and now leads me me out of the position. Soon, I will turn out the lights and close the door quietly behind me for the last time. I will not look back; we have new paths laid out before us.
