Peace

Who doesn't wish for peace on earth? What other occasion of the year is more likely to be the pretext for wishes for peace? What better represents peace in our minds than a reflection in a pool of water? The surface of the water so sensitive to the slightest disturbance of wind or foreign object can only be a mirror when there is perfect peace in its surroundings. One day a few weeks ago, this scene in the city gardens caught my eye and I couldn't resist taking photos. On this day, there weren't even any swans a'swimming to perturb the image.

But the peace of circumstances is so fragile. Practically every day since then we have been battered by winds and rains; roads have been washed out; trees have blown over on cars and houses; coastal infrastructures on the south and southwestern side of the island have been destroyed. The little boys are still trying to put their feet in the water in the garden pond, but they won't be seeing their reflection in the troubled waters. The majestic tree beside them has gone for days without a moment's rest.

May the peace of God that passes all understanding guard your heart and mind this coming year. May you enjoy green pastures and still waters; more importantly, may the Good Shepherd, and not circumstances, be your peace.
